ode

/

about

It was composed out of time, not synchronized however after many years of collaboration, for a choreography by Robert Desrosiers filmed at Cherry Beach in 2004. It surfaced the other day and became part of the stream of me leaving a trace .. My current way of playing is changing again, and I am leaving the works before 2021 as stones to find along the way .

I enjoyed multi track recording where I would move my chair in the room or make a circle of chairs and set two mics, and move from chair to chair as if there were many, listen to the previous tracks and respond. Describing place and sensation and listening far listening deep then allowing something to change.

As point of departure on this occasion was the quest to discover the origin of a beluga whale bone unearthed during a construction dig in the landfill at Front St.

"The beluga whale is primarily an arctic species; the St. Lawrence Estuary beluga is at the southernmost limit of the range and is geographically isolated from other populations. Before 1885, there were as many as 10,000 belugas in the St. Lawrence Estuary and Gulf."

My photograph the Pacific coast at low tide, where I first saw beluga in captivity.
